2013 Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve

2012 Turley Wine Cellars Zinfandel, Old Vines

Other bits and pieces from old vine parcels are co-mingled in the 2012 Zinfandel Old Vines, a delicious, up-front, medium ruby-colored Zin made with a Pinot Noir-like sensitivity. Both of these cuvees are best drunk in their first 3-4 years of life.

2012 Turley Wine Cellars Zinfandel, Cedarman Vineyard

The 2012 Zinfandel Cedarman includes a small amount of Petite Syrah. It is actually a proprietary blend from their two other Zinfandel cuvees, Rattlesnake Ridge and Dragon Vineyard, both on Howell Mountain.

2012 Turley Wine Cellars Zinfandel, Fredericks Vineyard

It is eclipsed somewhat by the spectacular 2012 Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard, a site that was planted in 1937 at about 900 foot elevation. This beautiful Zinfandel possesses a wonderful sucrosity, richness and intensity. I would highly recommend drinking these Zinfandels in their first 4-7 years of life.

2012 Turley Wine Cellars Petite Sirah Hayne Vineyard

Flirting with perfection, the 2012 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard and 2012 Petite Syrah Pesenti Vineyard both have off-the-charts richness as well as opaque black/blue colors, enormously concentrated red, blue and black fruits intermixed with camphor and creosote notes. The Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard can be drunk for its impressive scale, richness, texture and power in their youth, but it will not exhibit much secondary development for at least a decade. This will still be offering provocative and prodigious drinking 30 to 40 years from now.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon impresses for its layers of dark, plush fruit. Hints of cassis, grilled herbs, tobacco and cedar develop in the glass, adding further complexity and depth. Firm tannins frame the long finish. This is a very classic and beautiful Cabernet. In 2008 the blend is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, sourced from a number of sites, including Somerston, DeSantis, Lamoreaux and Snowden. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028.

2007 Ramey Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
A stunning yet reasonably priced, high end Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. Full-bodied and opulent, this precocious 2007 is drinkable now and should evolve for another 15+ years.

2008 Robert Foley Vineyards Merlot, Napa Valley

The dense ruby/purple 2008 Merlot has a sweet kiss of toast along with white chocolate/cocoa, plum and black cherry. The wine comes further alive in the mouth with a gorgeous display of red and black fruits infused with chocolate, espresso, and copious pleasurable flavors that present a smorgasbord of all that can be crammed into a Merlot. This full-bodied, opulently textured, voluptuous Merlot is about as good as it gets. It is irresistible now but certainly capable of lasting a decade or more – if anyone has the willpower to resist it.

Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

2010 Keever Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Rating: 95, Robert Parker

Keever’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon bristles on the palate with explosive aromas and flavors that conquer all of the senses. Vibrant, floral aromatics meld seamlessly into a gracious core of fruit as the wine opens up in the glass. At once structured yet delicate, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is pure elegance and glass. Another year or two in bottle should help the tannins resolve a bit. Today, the 2010 is a bit closed because of its recent bottling, but it is impressive just the same. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030.

2010 Lindstrom Winery Cabernet Sauvignon
Rating: 95+, Robert Parker

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is another huge, dark, imposing wine. Black olives, licorice, smoke and grilled herbs all come through nicely in this vivid Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2010 isn’t markedly different from the 2009 stylistically, suggesting it is the terroir that marks the wine to the greatest degree. There is a bit more tannin and overall structure here, though, so readers will have to be patient. Huge layers of dark fruit laced with exotic overtones of tar, incense and licorice saturate the palate on the finish. The only problem with the 2010 will be finding it, as production is down sharply from 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030.

2010 Rodney Strong Rockaway Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Rating: 94, Wine Spectator

Exhibits gorgeous dark berry flavors in a big yet graceful style, turning elegant and supple on the finish, where touches of spice, mocha and light oak come into play. Drink now through 2026. 1,356 cases made.

1996 Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac

1 Bottle   One bottle (750mL)
1996 Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
98 points, Robert Parker

The 1996 Lafite-Rothschild was remarkably deep in color considering that it is now 20 years in age. The bouquet is classic Pauillac with pencil shavings and sous-bois infusing the black fruit, masculine and a little aloof, yet focused and very well delineated. The palate is very well balanced with crisp blackberry and boysenberry fruit, spicier than I recollect, a crescendo of flavors so that it seems understated at first but fans out with a sense of confidence towards the finish. I think this still has more to give so cellar it away for another 5-8 years if you can, but otherwise this is an exemplary Lafite-Rothschild that I can envisage getting better and better in bottle, if not quite as enthralling as either Mouton-Rothschild or Château Margaux. Tasted July 2016.

2012 Odette Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon  Stags Leap District
Rating: 100 points, Robert Parker

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot) is off-the-charts, mind-blowing. Absolutely opaque purple color, a stunning nose of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, a full-bodied skyscraper-like textural extravaganza, luxurious ripeness, freshness and fruit. It’s a big wine at 15.4% natural alcohol, but you’d never know that if it weren’t on the label, as everything is beautifully married in one harmonious, glorious wine. The wine has an almost endless finish of 45-50 seconds that just hints at its ultimate potential. If you have discipline, put it away for 3-4 years and watch it unfold and develop for at least two decades. Drink 2017-2037.

2013 Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer to Kalon Vineyard, Oakville, Napa Valley
Rating: 100 points; Robert Parker

Lead pencil shavings, cedar wood, blueberry and blackberry liqueur as well as hints of forest floor and tobacco leaf are all present in this fragrant, sumptuously textured, full-bodied, massively rich yet sensationally well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a finish of well over 55 seconds. Drink 2016-2041.

2012 Realm  Cabernet Sauvignon “Beckstoffer Dr. Crane” Napa Valley
Rating: 100 points, Robert Parker  The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is another perfect wine. A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot (400 cases produced) aged in 100% new French oak, this gravelly site produced a wine with notes of wet pebbles, Haut Brion-like scorched earth and volcanic notes, some smoke, dark chocolate, forest floor, and massive amounts of blueberry and blackberry fruit. A wine of great intensity, depth and richness. This is pure perfection and should drink well young as well as 30 years from now. Bravo! Drink 2015-2045.

2007 Hundred Acre Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard
Rating: 100 points, Robert Parker

A profound wine from a superb Napa vintage for Bordeaux varietals, the 2007’s nose may cause one to overdose on blue, black and red berry fruit. The extraordinary intensity, purity and depth in this rich, flamboyant, exuberant wine are mindboggling. This bigger-than-life Cabernet Sauvignon appears set for 20-30 years of aging. It can be drunk now, but because of its sweet, velvety tannins, it will still be offering sensational drinking in 2040.

2010 Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley Stag’s Leap District
Rating: 100 points, Robert Parker

A remarkable wine, the 2010 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select has gone from strength to strength since it was in cask. It is stunningly rich, with classic, fragrant notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, vanilla, graphite and spring flowers. It exhibits an opaque purple color, with a full-bodied, massive mouthfeel, but no heaviness, and again, a flawless integration of acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. It’s classic California Cabernet, but beautifully put together, showing impeccable craftsmanship and fabulous potential. This is obviously a very young, infantile style of Cabernet that won’t hit its prime for at least another decade and last close to half a century, based on how older vintages that were less well-endowed have matured from Shafer. Drink 2024-2064.

2013 PlumpJack Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Oakville Napa Valley
Rating: 100 points; Robert Parker

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Estate Oakville is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot aged in 100% new French oak. This is perfection and an absolutely amazing effort. The wine is dense purple with sweet tannin, oodles of blueberry and blackberry fruit caressed by toasty new oak, and a full-bodied multi-dimensional mouthfeel — akin to a skyscraper in the mouth, but without any heaviness. The finish goes on for a good 45+ seconds, and the wine is super-pure and majestic. Truly a tour de force in Cabernet Sauvignon. Kudos to Plumpjack. Drink 2018-2040.

Value: $2,800.00
